The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

A very good chance. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 91st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 92nd minute of the match, but Brencis Tanbergs made a huge save. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ecuador's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
