Ernesto Marquez showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agustín Saelices, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. Julio Vera stood somewhat misplaced when Leonard Januszewski came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 30 minute. In the 34th minute, Edorta Adán hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 37 minutes into the match, Felix Montenegro had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ernesto Marquez. F.C. BARCELONA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Felix Montenegro was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Ernesto Marquez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luis Andino in the 41st minute of the match. In the 69th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ernesto Marquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jonathan Samuelsson in the 71st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 72 played minutes F.C. BARCELONA got a freekick which was hit by Urdin Leseduarte. In the 73rd minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ernesto Marquez was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
