Pete Sutcliffe kicked well hit freekick during the 9th minute of the match. Aslan Raci's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Angelo Melani read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 10th minute of play. The Fluminense DF fans' excitement grew in the 13th match minute when Fluminense DF's Ingemar Kilman looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Ingemar Kilman might have been able to make a better finish in the 16th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Angelo Melani. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Ingemar Kilman ran back to his position shaking his head. Angelo Melani took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ingemar Kilman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 17 played minutes Whity Pool United got a freekick which was hit by Colin Carr. In the 19th minute, Fluminense DF's Pierre Hopgood seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Pierre Hopgood the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Fluminense DF protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Pierre Hopgood had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 19th minute of the game. One of Fluminense DF:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Whity Pool United:s goal. In the 27th minute Fluminense DF were awarded a corner. Aslan Raci went to the cornerflag to take it. 28 minutes into the match, Whity Pool United's goal looked a bit too open when Ingemar Kilman came free, but Angelo Melani reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 30th minute of the match, Charis Vlastaras tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Carlisle Schultz saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Carlisle Schultz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Waclaw Kaczanek, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 34 played minutes Fluminense DF got a freekick which was hit by Pedrinho Seedorf.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Charis Vlastaras to make the kick off. In the 53rd minute, one of Fluminense DF:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Fluminense DF. Angelo Melani made an important save on a dangerous shot by Fábio Koehler in the 65th minute. In the 66th minute Ingemar Kilman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Angelo Melani saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carlisle Schultz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Syd Ely, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. In the 73rd minute, Colin Carr hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Whity Pool United's Stan Wilson was substituted for Daniel Jenkins. In the 74th match minute, Whity Pool United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Colin Carr to maneuver through the defense. Whity Pool United's Angelo Melani played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Prudencio Goiz in the 85th minute of play. In the 91st minute, Waclaw Kaczanek made a precise shot to the right of Carlisle Schultz. Fluminense DF's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Whity Pool United had won after a very even match.
