Arthur Bufi came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Arthur Bufi didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 13th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. Arthur Bufi took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Bufi having to interfere. Luis Andino sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Luis Andino fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Arthur Bufi quite easily take care of the ball. 余永川's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 32nd minute of play. In the 36th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Arthur Bufi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gwidon Cwojdak in the 45th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when 余永川 tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gwidon Cwojdak in the 47th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Zorita to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Arthur Bufi was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. 余永川 sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. In the 58th minute, Enrique de Mendonça hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cristian Sancho recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Ye Hong Shi had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some careless play in the Ecuador defense, 余永川 kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Julio Vera. The Ecuador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Julio Vera should have stopped the shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's Cristi Saron was substituted for Oswaldo Maranhense. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 76th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Arthur Bufi having to interfere. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube made a substitution. Olavo Quadros replaced Enrique de Mendonça. In the 79th minute 余永川 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-2. 余永川's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 92nd minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle, Cruzeiro Esporte Clube could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
