A well-hit corner resulted in Luis Vázquez heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. Sven-Edvin Jansson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 14th minute of the match, but Gabriel Porfiro made a huge save. In the 15th minute, Luis Vázquez got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Nery Pumpido didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Luis Vázquez went, in the 18th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. 22 minutes into the match, Luganeros AFC's Luis Vázquez sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nery Pumpido narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 22 minutes of play, Luganeros AFC's Luis Vázquez made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nery Pumpido was left in no man's land by his defense there! After a rather tough play, Luganeros AFC's Eliseo Bittor got a free kick in the 25th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Angel Alvarenga kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Gabriel Porfiro. That made the score 1-2 in the 27 minute of play. Sven-Edvin Jansson could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Gabriel Porfiro made a huge save. In the 40th minute of the match Luganeros AFC got a corner. GuateFortín's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Eliseo Bittor ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of GuateFortín's goalie and right to Ricardo Oinaz. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. GuateFortín's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. In the 43rd minute, Luis Vázquez left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Luganeros AFC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-3. When Stanyo Búnkov fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored GuateFortín's protests and gave Stanyo Búnkov a yellow card for diving instead. After 46 played minutes GuateFortín got a freekick which was hit by Stanyo Búnkov. Luganeros AFC's Eduardo Liher was substituted for Amancio Claris. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Yu Quan Di to make the kick off. Gabriel Porfiro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Angel Alvarenga, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. In the 56th minute Luis Vázquez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 59thth minute of the game Thierry Henry who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Luganeros AFC's Gabriel Porfiro was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 61st minute Angel Alvarenga shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gabriel Porfiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Danilo Ocampo charged in rather forcefully in the 67th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. Joe Kimutai kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Thierry Henry in the 76th minute of play forced Luganeros AFC's goalkeeper Gabriel Porfiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Yu Quan Di's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 77thth minute, Nery Pumpido skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. If Eduardo Liher had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 81st minute of the match, managed to save GuateFortín from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido got control of the ball when Yu Quan Di tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by William Villanueva in the 84th minute of play forced Luganeros AFC's goalkeeper Gabriel Porfiro to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 94th minute Thierry Henry shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gabriel Porfiro saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Gabriel Porfiro didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Thierry Henry went, in the 96th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-3 was the resulting score.
When the referee blew the final whistle, GuateFortín could leave the field as winners, despite Luganeros AFC having more of the ball for most of the match.
