Espen Steelers's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Teobald Karanewski 9 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-1. 15 minutes into the match, Carpathians's goal looked a bit too open when Alain Berset came free, but Călin Ghioncu reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gregor Kobel stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Teobald Karanewski's shot from short distance in the 16th minute. In the 19th minute Teobald Karanewski shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gregor Kobel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Espen Steelers's Gregor Kobel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Leontin Ţurcaş in the 29th minute of play. Călin Ghioncu showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Rogelio Montez in the 33rd minute of the match. The supporters of Espen Steelers booed when Carpathians was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 33 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cazimir Feteanu didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 36th minute, Nino Schurter got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 38 minutes into the match, Espen Steelers's goal looked a bit too open when Teobald Karanewski came free, but Gregor Kobel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Călin Ghioncu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alain Berset in the 41st minute of play. 43 minutes had been played when some careless play by Carpathians's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Williams Imholz was slow to take the kick. During this time Espen Steelers's players had a chance to rest. Alin Nichitelea fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 48th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gregor Kobel having to interfere. Carpathians's Pär Öman was substituted for Troizen Giannakopoulos. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Călin Ghioncu showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Nino Schurter, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alain Berset in the 63rd minute of play forced Carpathians's goalkeeper Călin Ghioncu to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Carpathians's Ercan Sabahaddin quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Marco Odermatt, made in the 64th minute of the game. In the 97th minute, Williams Imholz fired a really elegant long shot, but Călin Ghioncu threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post.
