Bornova's Sonny Alén played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edward Mcdonald in the 3rd minute of play. 6 minutes into the match, USA's Monty Rogers sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sonny Alén narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Sonny Alén showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cassius Byrne in the 16th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cassius Byrne in the 24th minute of play forced Bornova's goalkeeper Sonny Alén to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 29 minutes into the game, Kamil Momodu recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Marco Day. Kamil Momodu showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-0. Sonny Alén took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind USA's goalkeeper Marco Day, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. USA's Monty Rogers got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Yusuf Bahadır Rahmet had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 40 played minutes USA got a freekick which was hit by Edward Mcdonald. Michal Setara kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. After recieving a nice pass, USA's Cassius Byrne tried to score from far away in the 43rd minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. When Ahmet Nafiz Özilter came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Bornova fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ahmet Nafiz Özilter couldn't finish the play.

The wind increased when Cassius Byrne made the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute Monty Rogers shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sonny Alén saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marco Day showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kamil Momodu in the 56th minute of the match. In the 57th minute, Beyhan Oğuztüzün hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sonny Alén showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Monty Rogers, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Bornova's Sonny Alén proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save Bornova from getting a goal against them. 67 minutes into the match, Bornova's goalkeeper Sonny Alén had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cassius Byrne. In the 68th minute, Fernando Dracena made a precise shot to the right of Marco Day. USA's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In the 73rd minute of the match, Sam Campbell got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sonny Alén was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Sam Campbell could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Sonny Alén made a huge save. In the 88th minute Sam Campbell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sonny Alén saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 90th minute of the match, Sam Campbell got a very nice opportunity to score, but Sonny Alén was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sam Campbell in the 95th minute of play forced Bornova's goalkeeper Sonny Alén to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Bornova players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
