A very good chance. 28 minutes into the game, Maximiliano Escribano cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Mattias Casillas was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 32nd minute Francisco Seco shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mattias Casillas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Mattias Casillas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Francisco Seco in the 33rd minute of the match. Joaquin Gayoso made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dieguinho Marinho in the 35th minute. Dieguinho Marinhos short, quick shot in the 37thth minute got Joaquin Gayoso to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. A collision led to Corinthians Paulista getting a freekick after 40 minutes play. Jano Schmidt hit a great ball. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

Francisco Seco could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 55th minute of the match, but Mattias Casillas made a huge save. 57 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Dieguinho Marinho came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Corinthians Paulista was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Paulo Renato Trancoso didn't get a good kick on the ball. Maximiliano Escribano took the ball and in the 71 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mattias Casillas. Mattias Casillas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Mattias Casillas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Gisbert in the 75th minute of the match. Francisco Seco took the ball and in the 79 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Mattias Casillas. Mattias Casillas dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-3. Mattias Casillas showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Maximiliano Escribano in the 82nd minute of the match. In the 84th match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Francisco Seco to maneuver through the defense. Francisco Seco who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Mattias Casillas when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Francisco Seco recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mattias Casillas was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Jaime Cazalla showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-4 in the 92 minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Francisco Seco during the 96th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Corinthians Paulista booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 96 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francisco Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Uruguay supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Uruguay would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
