Artemio Varas was slow to take the kick. During this time Monitor Huáscar's players had a chance to rest. Julian Murillo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 39thth minute tested the skills of Apostol Sokolov when he managed to save the team from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eliseo Mina in the 41st minute of play forced Monitor Huáscar's goalkeeper Apostol Sokolov to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Claudio Quiroga, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Claudio Quiroga made a kick off. The supporters of Peru booed when Monitor Huáscar was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Johnny Nyström didn't get a good kick on the ball. Rolando Noboa breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 72nd minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Apostol Sokolov saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, Monitor Huáscar's goal looked a bit too open when Luz Tejedor came free, but Apostol Sokolov reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Milagros Fraga fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Apostol Sokolov having to interfere. Despite being the better team, Peru failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
