Orlando Casaus recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 37th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 39th minute Patrik Skark shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thiago Pliego saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 45 minutes into the match, Chile's Orlando Casaus sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Angel-Enrique Comizzo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Chile's attentive Jose Manzanedo managed to snatch the ball when Hassan Yusuf made a throw-in in the 96th minute of the game.
