Roman Matai showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 23rd minute. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Michel Batistuta tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 29th minute, Cristian Sancho ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roman Matai was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. In the 32nd minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roman Matai saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. STAL ST WOLA's Roman Matai played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 34th minute of play. Roman Matai showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 43rd minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The supporters of STAL ST WOLA booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luis Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Ecuador fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 85th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Roman Matai could save by the left post. After 87 played minutes STAL ST WOLA got a freekick which was hit by Damian Hodas. After a rather tough play, STAL ST WOLA's Damian Hodas got a free kick in the 91st minute. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than STAL ST WOLA throughout the match.
