Inácio Cruz came out of the goal in the 23rd minute to try and stop a shot by Ecuador's Cristian Sancho. But to his dismay, Cristian Sancho quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-3. 26 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Ferdinant Pierewaaijer came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 27th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Inácio Cruz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Marumby's Witalis Falk got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fellipe Queirós could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 37th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Inácio Cruz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. When Ecuador's Daniel Zorita in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Marumby's goalie prevented a goal. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Inácio Cruz having to interfere. In the 58th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Inácio Cruz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, Marumby's Inácio Cruz got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Marumby made a substitution. 邱朋朗 replaced Pedrinho Seco. Marumby's Bebeto Matorin was substituted for Gugu Magalhães. Marumby's Geraldo de Moraes was substituted for Válbson Pires. Marumby's attentive Witalis Falk managed to snatch the ball when Felix Montenegro made a throw-in in the 70th minute of the game. In the 76th match minute, Marumby was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denílson Varela to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 78th minute of play forced Marumby's goalkeeper Inácio Cruz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Zoritas short, quick shot in the 80thth minute got Inácio Cruz to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 91 played minutes Marumby got a freekick which was hit by Denílson Varela. 93 minutes into the game, Primitivo Andino was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Marumby the free kick. The supporters of Marumby booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Primitivo Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Marumby throughout the match.
