The crowd rose to their feet as Ascencio Quintas kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Pedro Manzanares. That made the score 1-0 in the 5 minute of play. When Jose-Manuel Jauregui fell near the penalty area in the 8th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vetusta's protests and gave Jose-Manuel Jauregui a yellow card for diving instead. Jose-Manuel Jauregui kicked well hit freekick during the 8th minute of the match. Axel Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ray De Lauw having to make a save. Vetusta's Ray De Lauw played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Axel Montenegro in the 17th minute of play. Dorio Cacheres's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 19thth minute, Pedro Manzanares skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Vetusta's Ascencio Quintas got a good chance for a goal in the 23rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 31st minute, Vetusta's Ascencio Quintas ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Pedro Manzanares. Pedro Manzanares yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. 35 minutes into the match, Vetusta's goal looked a bit too open when Axel Montenegro came free, but Ray De Lauw reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Axel Montenegro in the 37th minute of play forced Vetusta's goalkeeper Ray De Lauw to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nicolás Rua lost his temper 41 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 42nd minute, Axel Montenegro ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ray De Lauw was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. A sloppy throw-in by Iosu Toxeiro in the 45th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Colombia's Antonio Indiano. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jose-Manuel Jauregui stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jose-Manuel Jauregui fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Manzanares having to interfere. The Colombia supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Colombia would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
