Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Frank Fabiani, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 22nd minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Comunardo Marsili saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 23th minute after Atletico Kankero's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 24th minute. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Atletico Kankero's Comunardo Marsili managed to reach the ball for a save. Comunardo Marsili showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 28th minute. Atletico Kankero's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. 41 minutes into the match, Ernesto Ferri dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Julio Vera, 2-1. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Beppe Faiella was the one to do the kick off. Atletico Kankero's Comunardo Marsili played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 62nd minute of play. Daniel Zorita's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Comunardo Marsili firmly grabbed it by the left post. 70 minutes into the match, Atletico Kankero's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Comunardo Marsili reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Agustín Saelices's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Comunardo Marsili read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 74th minute of play. Atletico Kankero's defense didn't have a chance, in the 76th minute, when Felix Montenegro scored to the left of an out of position Comunardo Marsili, making the score, 2-2. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 84th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Atletico Kankero's defense didn't have a chance, in the 88th minute, when Cristian Sancho scored to the left of an out of position Comunardo Marsili, making the score, 2-4. Ecuador played a much better game than Atletico Kankero and deserved their victory. The Atletico Kankero players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
