Walter Zenga showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Felix Montenegro in the 9th minute of the match. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Costel Ţintă in the 14th minute of play. Augustin Vergulescu's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 17thth minute, Julio Vera skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Dan Tinu's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Scorpions -MM- was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tony Dobos didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the last second Julio Vera throw himself and got hold of the ball when Costel Ţintă in the 46thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Costel Ţintă in the 88th minute of play. The Scorpions -MM- players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
