Jimmy Lilja made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 8th minute of play. 11 minutes into the match, Gröngölingarnas IF's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Jimmy Lilja reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luis Andino kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Luiz Fernando Leal got free with Julio Vera in the 15th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Alf Ahlkvist didn't have the luck on his side when he, from a short distance, got a opportunity for a shot on goal in the 17th minute. The shot missed the goal on the right side and Alf Ahlkvist ran dejectedly back to his position. An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 22nd minute of play forced Gröngölingarnas IF's goalkeeper Jimmy Lilja to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 24 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luiz Fernando Leal. 26 minutes into the match, Gröngölingarnas IF's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Jimmy Lilja reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Felix Montenegro could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Jimmy Lilja made a huge save. Jimmy Lilja made a fantastic save in the 69th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Ecuador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Daniel Zorita in the 70th minute. Adrian Strandberg hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. A hard shot by Daniel Zorita from long distance, 74 minutes into the match, got Jimmy Lilja's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luiz Fernando Leal in the 76th minute of the match. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Camilo Gisbert got a free kick in the 77th minute. After having played for 79 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Jimmy Lilja made a huge save. Karl-Ove Överman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Gröngölingarnas IF's Jimmy Lilja got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alf Ahlkvist in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Julio Vera saved Ecuador from getting behind. Cristian Sancho's late challenge caught a Gröngölingarnas IF's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Cristian Sancho helped the player get up and apologised. Gröngölingarnas IF's Gert Ström was substituted for Karl-Axel Jonsson. The supporters of Gröngölingarnas IF booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cristian Sancho didn't get a good kick on the ball.
