Benito Sanz was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Edu Saraiva showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 9 minute of play. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Duda Peixoto, who was totally free with the ball in the 12th minute. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duda Peixoto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 18 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Duda Peixoto came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 20th minute, Wesley Soeiro left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. Róbson Arósio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 25th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Duda Peixoto dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Benito Sanz, 3-0. Edu Saraiva could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. The supporters of ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 35 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lautaro Puig didn't get a good kick on the ball. Costa Rica's defense didn't have a chance, in the 38th minute, when Juvenal Corrêa scored to the left of an out of position Benito Sanz, making the score, 4-0. 44 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Juvenal Corrêa. 46 minutes into the game, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Róbson Arósio made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 4-1.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Juvenal Corrêa made a kick off. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Duda Peixoto in the 53rd minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Duda Peixoto in the 58th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a good chance for a goal in the 60th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 67th minute to try and stop a shot by ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ's Wesley Soeiro. But to his dismay, Wesley Soeiro quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-1. Lautaro Puig sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 76th minute Duda Peixoto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 84thth minute of the game Juvenal Corrêa who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Duda Peixoto in the 85th minute of the match. 87 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Wesley Soeiro came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ's Róbson Arósio got control of the ball when Aaron Alcocer tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Aaron Alcocer hit a great ball. 95 minutes into the game, Juan Rubio was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Costa Rica's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ the free kick. In a very dangerous position, a player in Costa Rica fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 95th minute. Penalty! Benito Sanz had in the 97thth minute some difficulties stopping Juarês Toledo's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 98 minutes into the match, Gugu de Toledo had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Gugu de Toledo was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-1.
