The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Olo Armenta made in the 5th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Ecuador's Felix Montenegro. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Poncio Zalaeta in the 6th minute. In the 9th minute, Nunez Rodas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Lohitzun Reigosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 12th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Birra Bizarra's Nunez Rodas got a free kick in the 15th minute. Birra Bizarra's Lohitzun Reigosa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 18th minute of play. If Poncio Zalaeta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Poncio Zalaeta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 30 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Poncio Zalaeta who took care of the corner kick. Poncio Zalaetas short, quick shot in the 32ndth minute got Julio Vera to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Birra Bizarra's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Poncio Zalaeta in the 33rd minute. The corner led to Birra Bizarra's Beltza Feyjo getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. Lohitzun Reigosa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 36th minute of play. In the 38th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lohitzun Reigosa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Primitivo Andino hit a great ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 46th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Poncio Zalaeta to make the kick off. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Poncio Zalaeta in the 55th minute of the match. In the 59th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After a rather tough play, Ecuador's Luis Andino got a free kick in the 68th minute. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Poncio Zalaeta in the 73rd minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Lohitzun Reigosa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Poncio Zalaeta might have been able to make a better finish in the 81st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Poncio Zalaeta ran back to his position shaking his head. Nunez Rodas fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. The supporters of Birra Bizarra booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luis Andino didn't get a good kick on the ball. Erlantz Gainzarain received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Poncio Zalaeta's shot from short distance in the 94th minute. In the 94th minute, Luis Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 95th minute, Poncio Zalaeta got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
