The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Lautaro Puig kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Zafer Erokay went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. In the 18th minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ahmet Orhan Usal saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a little luck, .......'s Ahmet Orhan Usal got control of the ball when Lautaro Puig tried to sneak it across the goal line. Raşit Kanat's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Raşit Kanat helped the player get up and apologised. Raşit Kanat hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. After 27 minutes Costa Rica's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu who took care of the corner kick. .......'s Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Benito Sanz in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. A collision led to ....... getting a freekick after 33 minutes play. Ulvi Pehlivan hit a great ball. Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Axel Tasis got a free kick in the 36th minute. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu went, in the 38th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-2 was the resulting score. An unexpected shot in the 46th minute by Eliseo Noboa got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The wind increased when Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu made the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Kahraman Turan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Kahraman Turan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lautaro Puig in the 66th minute of play forced .......'s goalkeeper Ahmet Orhan Usal to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Kahraman Turan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 71st minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. .......'s Kahraman Turan got a good chance for a goal in the 73rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. .......'s Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu got a good chance for a goal in the 78th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Abdurrahim Şahinoğlu's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 87th minute, when Murathan Olgunsoy sent off a good shot on target. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Murathan Olgunsoy in the 87th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole.
