The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After having played for 3 minutes, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Daniel Zorita was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 7th minute, Daniel Zorita got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Benny Stolpe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Daniel Zorita, who was totally free with the ball in the 9th minute. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's Benny Stolpe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 10th minute of play. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Freddy Basajaun in the 12th minute. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 16th minute Cristian Sancho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benny Stolpe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cesar Garcia fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Freddy Basajaun in the 20th minute of the match. In the 24th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Sebastián Puig to maneuver through the defense. In the 29th minute Aldo Rito shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS were awarded a corner in the 30th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Freddy Basajaun took the corner. The supporters of Ecuador booed when C.A. BOCA JUNIORS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Boruc Gajewski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Anselmo Gai struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for C.A. BOCA JUNIORS. Daniel Zorita scored 0-1 in the 39th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benny Stolpe, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 47 minutes into the game, Felix Montenegro cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. Benny Stolpe was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in.
The wind increased when Daniel Zorita made the kick off in the second half. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's Benny Stolpe proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 54th minute of the match, managed to save C.A. BOCA JUNIORS from getting a goal against them. In the 57th minute Freddy Basajaun shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 58th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 59 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's Benny Stolpe. Benny Stolpe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Freddy Basajaun, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Benny Stolpe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 66th minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Benny Stolpe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 73rd minute, Luis Andino fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Benny Stolpe, passed just outside the right post. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's Benny Stolpe played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 76th minute of play. 77 minutes into the match, C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's goalkeeper Benny Stolpe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benny Stolpe having to interfere. Cristian Sancho had several of the C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 85 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-4 score and a disappointed Benny Stolpe as he didn't even see the shot coming. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 97 minutes into the game, Daniel Zorita recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Benny Stolpe. Daniel Zorita showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-5. When the match was over Ecuador could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than C.A. BOCA JUNIORS throughout the match.
