Benito Sanz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Christian Demmel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Christian Demmel fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. 22 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Demmel came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Demmel in the 33rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. BiBa were awarded a corner in the 34th minute after Costa Rica's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Severin Katzer took the corner. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Demmel, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Christian Demmel in the 41st minute of the match. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leon Mackert in the 42nd minute of play. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christian Demmel in the 50th minute of play. 50 minutes into the match, Christian Demmel had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Christian Demmel was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. When the match had gone on for 59 minutes, Christian Demmel took a quick shot and it went in 0-3 without a chance for Benito Sanz to make any attempt to save it. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Christian Demmel in the 64th minute of play. In the 69th minute, Marc Pell ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-4. After some careless play in the BiBa defense, Eliseo Noboa kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Stefan Wrobel. The BiBa fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Stefan Wrobel should have stopped the shot. Stefan Wrobel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. 76 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Demmel came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner led BiBa's Severin Katzer to fire away a dangerous shot which Benito Sanz despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Juan Rubio hit a great ball. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Ulf Schilder tried to sneak it across the goal line. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Christian Demmel in the 85th minute of play. In the 86th minute, Alan Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Christian Demmel in the 87th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Christian Demmel sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. Leon Mackert took the ball and in the 94 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-5.
