Thomas Runeberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Francisco Seco in the 32nd minute of play. 34 minutes into the game, Sotiris Koupepes recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Joaquin Gayoso. Sotiris Koupepes showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 5-1. In the 37th minute, Maximiliano Escribano made a precise shot to the right of Thomas Runeberg. Wolverhampton's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 5-2. After some careless play in the Uruguay defense, Edmund Almkvist kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joaquin Gayoso. The Uruguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joaquin Gayoso should have stopped the shot. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 6-2 at half-time.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Edmund Almkvist in the 54th minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sotiris Koupepes sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kang Hong Zhan replaced Librado Pamperin. Jorge Sainz got a throw-in 69 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Camilo Franco. If Sotiris Koupepes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 73rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Maximiliano Escribano got free with Thomas Runeberg in the 76th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 78 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Sotiris Koupepes came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Sotiris Koupepes might have been able to make a better finish in the 79th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Joaquin Gayoso. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Sotiris Koupepes ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 80th minute of the match, Francisco Seco got a very nice opportunity to score, but Thomas Runeberg was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. After a rather tough play, Wolverhampton's Edmund Almkvist got a free kick in the 87th minute. Wolverhampton's Thomas Runeberg proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 90th minute of the match, managed to save Wolverhampton from getting a goal against them. 92 minutes into the match, Wolverhampton's goalkeeper Thomas Runeberg had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Francisco Seco. Wolverhampton's Edmund Almkvist got a good chance for a goal in the 96th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Uruguay's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Wolverhampton had won, even though Uruguay had held more of the ball.
