The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Abel Carballo during the 3rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Olympique Deleon booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Abel Carballo didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ronaldão Miranda struck a weak shot in the 4th minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Olympique Deleon. Johan Cruijff fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Abel Carballo got a free kick in the 19th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Tiaguinho de Carvalho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Olympique Deleon's supporters rose to their feet, but Tiaguinho de Carvalho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 24 minutes into the match, Ronaldão Miranda had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Ronaldão Miranda was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Rogério Pinho took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eliseo Noboa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Eurico Aguiar's shot from short distance in the 36th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Olympique Deleon's zone, Lautaro Puig stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rogério Pinho came out of the goal and Lautaro Puig tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ronaldão Miranda scored 0-2 in the 41st match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Olympique Deleon was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Benjamin Paraense didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. Rogério Pinho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Axel Tasis in the 51st minute of play. Rogério Pinho showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Axel Tasis in the 53rd minute of the match. 57 minutes into the game, Olympique Deleon's Johan Cruijff nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. In the 62nd minute, Olympique Deleon's Eurico Aguiar ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-4. In the 67th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Axel Tasis to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Johan Cruijff tried to sneak it across the goal line. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eurico Aguiar in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luís Fábio Travassos kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Johan Cruijff recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 85th minute Eurico Aguiar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rogério Pinho made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa in the 94th minute of play. A nice corner shot did that Axel Tasis got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Rogério Pinho quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save.
