Emerson Whaley made an important save on a dangerous shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 16th minute. 18 minutes into the match, AFC Richmond's goal looked a bit too open when Alberto Tafalla came free, but Emerson Whaley reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Emerson Whaley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 22nd minute of play. In the 24th minute, Alberto Tafalla left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mexico fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-0. With 31 minutes on the clock, Ali Can commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 30th minute, one of AFC Richmond:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for AFC Richmond. When the match had been going on for 33 minutes, Mexico's Joel Gaona got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Emerson Whaley. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Irmantas Zenkevičius in the 36th minute of play. 38 minutes had been played when some careless play by Mexico's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Filip Mladenovič was slow to take the kick. During this time AFC Richmond's players had a chance to rest. AFC Richmond's Filip Mladenovič was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Dante Lacasa in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 39 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of AFC Richmond's Emerson Whaley. Emerson Whaley was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Joel Gaona made a kick off. AFC Richmond's Emerson Whaley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luca Zorita in the 51st minute of play. Dante Lacasa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Irmantas Zenkevičius, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 61st minute Alberto Tafalla shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Emerson Whaley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Emerson Whaley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 62nd minute of the match. Joel Gaona's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Emerson Whaley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 64th minute of play. Alberto Tafalla might have been able to make a better finish in the 65th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Emerson Whaley. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Alberto Tafalla ran back to his position shaking his head. After a rather tough play, AFC Richmond's Filip Mladenovič got a free kick in the 68th minute. AFC Richmond's Emerson Whaley played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joel Gaona in the 70th minute of play. After 73 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Lorenzo Cazalla. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from David Brochu, who was totally free with the ball in the 79th minute. 88 minutes into the match, Joel Gaona had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Emerson Whaley. AFC Richmond's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joel Gaona was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. Emerson Whaley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Joel Gaona, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Irmantas Zenkevičius could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 95th minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save.
