Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maurice Odonnell, who was totally free with the ball in the 2nd minute. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Gilberto Boone tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 9 minutes of play, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Gilberto Boone was left in no man's land by his defense there! Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Maurice Odonnell in the 11th minute of play. 12 minutes into the match, Varennes's goal looked a bit too open when Daniel Zorita came free, but Gilberto Boone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Felix Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Gilberto Boone having to make a save. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 24 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Gilberto Boone showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 32nd minute of the match. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 43rd minute, Varennes's Maurice Odonnell dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Maurice Odonnell to make the kick off. In the 50th minute, Antonio Arias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 53 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Gilberto Boone narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 54th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gilberto Boone having to interfere. Felix Montenegro's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Gilberto Boone firmly grabbed it by the left post. Ecuador played a much better game than Varennes and deserved their victory. The Varennes players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
