Pedro Manzanares was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Augusto Cordario showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 6 minute of play. Augusto Cordario sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. In the 14th minute of the match, Augusto Cordario tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Pedro Manzanares saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Erwin Huygens took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Santino Seco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Pedro Manzanares stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Augusto Cordario's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. Erwin Huygens showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santino Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. After 27 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Gaston Ávila. Marcos Pacifico hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. Erwin Huygens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kevin Mastache in the 32nd minute of the match. Kevin Mastache blasted a shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Erwin Huygens having to make a save. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Abram Sarmiento was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gaston Ávila to maneuver through the defense. In the 57th minute Abram Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erwin Huygens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 57 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Abram Sarmiento came free, but Erwin Huygens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Axel Montenegro might have been able to make a better finish in the 61st minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Erwin Huygens. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Axel Montenegro ran back to his position shaking his head. Erwin Huygens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Montenegro in the 61st minute. Colombia made a substitution. Abram Secada replaced Axel Montenegro. Erwin Huygens showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santino Seco, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. The supporters of Velez Sarsfield booed when Colombia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Colombia were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
