An unexpectedly hard shot by Daniel Zorita in the 20th minute of play forced Planet Caravan's goalkeeper Romeu Marques to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Planet Caravan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Anísio Saraiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 24th minute, which inside left pole to 1-2. After a rather tough play, Planet Caravan's João Francisco Furtado got a free kick in the 52nd minute. In the 53rd minute, Dedê Vinhas hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniel Zorita took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 54th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Romeu Marques. Planet Caravan's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Agustín Saelices fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 59th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Romeu Marques having to interfere. With a little luck, Planet Caravan's Romeu Marques got control of the ball when Cristian Sancho tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The crowd rose to their feet as Ecuador's Cristian Sancho slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Romeu Marques. That made the score 2-3 after 75 minutes of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Romeu Marques in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. An unexpectedly hard shot by Bebeto Queirós in the 81st minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The corner ended in Felix Montenegro almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Planet Caravan's Romeu Marques did a great save. 84 minutes into the game, Felix Montenegro lined in a short shot 2-4 behind a frustrated Romeu Marques. The Ecuador fans' excitement grew in the 87th match minute when Ecuador's Daniel Zorita looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-5 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene.
