In the 6th minute Eurico Aguiar shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 9 minutes into the match, Olympique Deleon's goalkeeper Rogério Pinho had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Lautaro Puig. When Olympique Deleon's Eurico Aguiar in the 10th minute got a chance for a shot 10th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Costa Rica's goalie prevented a goal. In the 11th match minute, Olympique Deleon was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ronaldão Miranda to maneuver through the defense. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Johan Cruijff went, in the 14th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Abel Carballo hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Eurico Aguiar in the 23rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a rather tough play, Olympique Deleon's Ronaldão Miranda got a free kick in the 24th minute. Johan Cruijff received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 33 minutes into the match, Eurico Aguiar notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. When Abel Carballo fell near the penalty area in the 36th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Abel Carballo a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 36 minutes play. Abel Carballo hit a great ball. In the 37thth minute of the game Eurico Aguiar who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Tiaguinho de Carvalho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 45th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rogério Pinho having to interfere. After the first half Olympique Deleon were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eurico Aguiar was the one to do the kick off. Abel Carballo kicked well hit freekick during the 53rd minute of the match. After some careless play in the Costa Rica defense, Johan Cruijff kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The Costa Rica fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benito Sanz should have stopped the shot. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Johan Cruijff stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Johan Cruijff tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 74th minute. Johan Cruijff fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eurico Aguiar, who was totally free with the ball in the 84th minute. Eurico Aguiar's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 88thth minute, Benito Sanz skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. If Johan Cruijff had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 90th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Axel Tasis got a free kick in the 94th minute. A hard shot by Tiaguinho de Carvalho from long distance, 95 minutes into the match, got Benito Sanz's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. Johan Cruijff received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Olympique Deleon's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
