In the 8th minute, Edgard Calisto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Estudiantes de la Plata fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. A collision led to Estudiantes de la Plata getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Saul Perutxo hit a great ball. Estudiantes de la Plata's Angelo Farias played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 17th minute of play. Angelo Farias made an important save on a dangerous shot by Axel Tasis in the 24th minute. Estudiantes de la Plata were furious when Evaristo Matteo was red carded, 25 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. A collision led to Estudiantes de la Plata getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Evaristo Matteo hit a great ball. When the match had gone on for 29 minutes, Axel Tasis took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for Angelo Farias to make any attempt to save it. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernesto Soin in the 39th minute of play. 42 minutes into the game, Estudiantes de la Plata's Ernesto Soin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Benito Sanz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-4. Angelo Farias showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eliseo Noboa, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. The Costa Rica players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Estudiantes de la Plata were winning 1-4.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Igor Gilabert tried to sneak it across the goal line. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Eliseo Noboa hit a great ball. In the 67th minute Axel Tasis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Angelo Farias saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Lautaro Puig came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lautaro Puig couldn't finish the play. Ernesto Soin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. After 76 minutes, Hector Quinto mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Estudiantes de la Plata and the Costa Rica players grew even worse after the yellow card. Axel Tasis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ernesto Soin fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 80th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. If Lautaro Puig had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Aaron Alcocer got a free kick in the 86th minute. Benito Sanz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ernesto Soin went, in the 87th minute, to the upper right corner, 2-5 was the resulting score. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ernesto Soin got free with Benito Sanz in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Saul Perutxo during the 94th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Saul Perutxo hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. The Costa Rica supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Estudiantes de la Plata's performance. The match ended with a win for Estudiantes de la Plata.
