Thiago Pliego made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Taisto Pentsinen in the 25th minute of play. In the 30th minute Mariano Lacasa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Edwin van der Sar saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Orlando Casaus received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Edwin van der Sar tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Valdemar Kuoppala stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Manchester United FC's zone, Mariano Lacasa stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Edwin van der Sar came out of the goal and Mariano Lacasa tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Chile's Thiago Pliego played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Taisto Pentsinen in the 82nd minute of play. 84 minutes into the match, Manchester United FC's goal looked a bit too open when Francisco Carballar came free, but Edwin van der Sar reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Pedro Indiano kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. Manchester United FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Valdemar Kuoppala was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 97 minutes into the match, Mariano Lacasa notched a goal, 1-3, to the right of Manchester United FC's Edwin van der Sar. Edwin van der Sar was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Chile's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
