With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Marcio Carreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 24 minutes, Eliseo Noboa mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the FCSB CUENCA players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 25th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eliseo Noboa to maneuver through the defense. Leif Röd took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 25th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Pujol in the 28th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marcio Carreira in the 33rd minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Marcio Carreira was the one to do the kick off. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Alexander Carballo hit a great ball. In the 59th minute, Juan Rubio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Samuel Dracena in the 60th minute of play. When the match clock showed 61 minutes, the score became 0-5 when Marcio Carreira sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. After having played for 65 minutes, Marcio Carreira managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. FCSB CUENCA's supporters crossed their fingers, but Marcio Carreira was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Juan Rubio hit a great freekick 67 minutes into the match. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Samuel Dracena tried to sneak it across the goal line. João Francisco Sanches didn't miss a given chance and shot in short distance 0-7 via right post in the game's 75th minute. FCSB CUENCA's supporters showed their exhuberating excitement!
