Makis Dimitrakis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 4th minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. 5 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Dimosthenis Kakavos came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 8th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Timos Kolleris tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 13th minute, Olympiacos FC's Vrasidas Mantelis dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. Benito Sanz made an important save on a dangerous shot by Timos Kolleris in the 22nd minute. In the 24th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Abel Carballo to maneuver through the defense. In the 29th minute, Makis Dimitrakis made a precise shot to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. Timos Kolleris received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Benito Sanz came out and tried to block the shot, but Timos Kolleris slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 33rd minute. In the 35th minute, Alan Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Timos Kolleris tried to sneak it across the goal line. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 40th minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. The crowd rose to their feet as Nivaldo Aleixo kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Benito Sanz. That made the score 4-0 in the 41 minute of play.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Timos Kolleris was the one to do the kick off. 53 minutes into the match, Olympiacos FC's goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Noboa came free, but Dimitris Michopoulos reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 55th minute, Timos Kolleris ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. Timos Kolleris took the ball and in the 63 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 8-0. In the 67th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Aaron Alcocer to maneuver through the defense. 69 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Timos Kolleris came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benito Sanz came out of the goal in the 74th minute to try and stop a shot by Olympiacos FC's Vrasidas Mantelis. But to his dismay, Vrasidas Mantelis quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 9-0. 78 minutes into the match, Makis Dimitrakis had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Makis Dimitrakis was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 10-0. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Makis Dimitrakis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 85thth minute of the game Vrasidas Mantelis who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Costa Rica's Benito Sanz was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 87 minutes had been played when some careless play by Costa Rica's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Victoriano Frans was slow to take the kick. During this time Olympiacos FC's players had a chance to rest. 94 minutes into the match, Vrasidas Mantelis notched a goal, 11-0, to the right of Costa Rica's Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
