An unexpectedly hard shot by Patricio Costa in the 25th minute of play forced Celtistas's goalkeeper Rodney Marines to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 26th minute, Xabat Diaz hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rodney Marines made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 27th minute of play. 39 minutes into the match, Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Xabat Diaz. Jonathan Ferrant was out of position in the 41 minute of play, and Kiko Ferrer capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Kiko Ferrer really showed his touch with that goal: 1-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Tomas Illescas made the kick off in the second half. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Nabucodonosor Campomanes in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. In the 59th minute Patricio Costa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rodney Marines saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tomas Illescas got free with Rodney Marines in the 59th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 60 minutes Celtistas's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Tomas Illescas who took care of the corner kick. Tomas Illescas made a great header on Venezuela's corner, it was just that Celtistas's Rodney Marines managed to reach the ball for a save. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lorencio Abasalo in the 64th minute of play. A collision led to Venezuela getting a freekick after 67 minutes play. Patricio Costa hit a great ball. Rodney Marines showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Illescas in the 71st minute of the match. When Tomas Illescas came up free with the goalie in the 75th minute, the Venezuela fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Illescas couldn't finish the play. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kiko Ferrer in the 79th minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Nabucodonosor Campomanes's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jonathan Ferrant read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 95th minute of play.
