In the 44th minute, Christos Romanakoglou ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ricardo Zorita was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-5. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Moises Fernandino to make the kick off. Abram Luque charged in rather forcefully in the 51st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, Themos Proedropoulos kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. 69 minutes into the game, Olympiacos FC's Alexis Kotsanakis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ricardo Zorita made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-9. An unexpectedly hard shot by Themos Proedropoulos in the 72nd minute of play forced El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 74 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goal looked a bit too open when Christos Romanakoglou came free, but Ricardo Zorita reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Themos Proedropoulos in the 75th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ricardo Zorita saved El Salvador from getting behind. After having played for 78 minutes, Themos Proedropoulos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Olympiacos FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Themos Proedropoulos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 83rd minute, El Salvador's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Alexis Kotsanakis fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. With a little luck, El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita got control of the ball when Themos Proedropoulos tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 84th minute, Themos Proedropoulos ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ricardo Zorita was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-11. The audience was convinced that Themos Proedropoulos's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ricardo Zorita was relentless in the 87th minute of the game. Alexis Kotsanakis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Ricardo Zorita made a huge save. Alexis Kotsanakis came free with the goalkeeper in the 96th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Ricardo Zorita could save by the left post. After 97 minutes El Salvador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Sakis Paragioudakis who took care of the corner kick. The El Salvador fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Olympiacos FC were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
