When the match had gone on for 14 minutes, Tomas Illescas put it in 1-2 from a short distance just to the right of Lorien Tros. Mariano Millrick made in the 18th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Teodoro Camargo immediately put the ball in play. The supporters of A.S.Saint Ethiene booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 27 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the game, one of A.S.Saint Ethiene:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. Lorien Tros made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 41st minute of play. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Håkan Molin in the 42nd minute of play. Håkan Molin in the 44thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jonathan Ferrant, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. The A.S.Saint Ethiene players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Venezuela were winning 2-3.

In the 65th minute A.S.Saint Ethiene were awarded a corner. Fiori Cerezo went to the cornerflag to take it. A.S.Saint Ethiene's Utoh Bachdim was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Jonathan Ferrant in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Teodoro Camargo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Jonathan Ferrant tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, A.S.Saint Ethiene's Lorien Tros got control of the ball when Tomas Illescas tried to sneak it across the goal line. 73 minutes into the game, A.S.Saint Ethiene's Håkan Molin nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Tomas Illescas's late challenge caught a A.S.Saint Ethiene's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 95th minute of play forced A.S.Saint Ethiene's goalkeeper Lorien Tros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
