With a couple of smart ball manuevers Mete Gøl in the 17th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dante Lacasa saved Mexico from getting behind. 18 minutes into the match, Mexico's Alberto Tafalla sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Iurie Chiriacescu narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Alberto Tafalla was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. With a little luck, Mexico's Dante Lacasa got control of the ball when Guga Trancoso tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 26th minute of the match, Mete Gøl tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Dante Lacasa saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Demis Katsarolidis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Dante Lacasa made a huge save. The supporters of PIAUÍ FC booed when Mexico was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Leonardo Leoz didn't get a good kick on the ball. The score stood at 1-1 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Guga Trancoso to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lautaro Mancebo got free with Iurie Chiriacescu in the 55th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Alberto Tafalla sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mete Gøl struck a weak shot in the 58th minute. Dante Lacasa didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for PIAUÍ FC. Iurie Chiriacescu made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 68th minute of play. In the 70th minute of the match, Lautaro Mancebo got a very nice opportunity to score, but Iurie Chiriacescu was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.
