With an extended leg and a bit of luck Benito Sanz prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Axel Tasis charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Axel Tasis the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mihály Szikora in the 34th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mihály Szikora in the 37th minute of play. Roland Havas took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 42nd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Benito Sanz. Costa Rica's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Alan Moruga charged in rather forcefully in the 44th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Alan Moruga the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 44 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Alan Moruga. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Mihály Szikora was the one to do the kick off. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mihály Szikora in the 58th minute of play. 59 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Mihály Szikora. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa got a free kick in the 60th minute. When Krisztián Buday fell near the penalty area in the 61st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Leeds's protests and gave Krisztián Buday a yellow card for diving instead. After 61 played minutes Leeds got a freekick which was hit by Krisztián Buday. After 62 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Axel Tasis. In the 63rd minute, Eliseo Noboa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Axel Tasis hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 75th minute, which inside left pole to 1-2. Lautaro Puig kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save Costa Rica from getting a goal against them. Mihály Szikora who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 84thth minute tested the skills of Benito Sanz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Abel Carballo got a free kick in the 87th minute. Lautaro Puig hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. In the 92nd minute Mihály Szikora shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience was convinced that Mihály Szikora's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 94th minute of the game. Leeds's Gábor Kádár got a good chance for a goal in the 95th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Mihály Szikora had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 97th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
