After having played for 18 minutes, Tomas Berganza managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Panama's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tomas Berganza was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Abraham Alguacil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 21st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Eugeniusz Kostrzewa charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Eugeniusz Kostrzewa the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. With an all-out effort, Panama's Iacob Nistor threw himself towards the right post 51 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Tomas Berganza, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Tomas Berganza recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 59th minute Tomas Berganza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iacob Nistor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 62 minutes into the match, Isidoro Sarmiento dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Iacob Nistor, 0-3. Thanks to some nice moves Abraham Alguacil could shoot a difficult shot in the 65th minute, which Iacob Nistor however easily saved by the left post. In the 66th minute Tomas Berganza shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Iacob Nistor saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Panama's Miguel Miralles got a free kick in the 67th minute. Tomas Berganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Iacob Nistor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Tomas Berganza came up free with the goalie in the 79th minute, the Panama fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tomas Berganza couldn't finish the play. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gică Boerescu in the 81st minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Alex Team's zone, Abraham Alguacil stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Iacob Nistor came out of the goal and Abraham Alguacil tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 89th minute, Niculae Ştercă hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tomas Berganza received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Iacob Nistor tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With 96 minutes on the clock, Alex Cambeiro commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. Alex Cambeiro hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. Gică Boerescu might have been able to make a better finish in the 97th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Marcos Cotilla. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Gică Boerescu ran back to his position shaking his head.
