Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 3rd minute, when Honorio Aztore sent off a good shot on target. 5 minutes into the match, Nuevo Horizonte's goal looked a bit too open when Axel Tasis came free, but Niceto Virila reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 8 minutes into the match, Eliseo Noboa notched a goal, 0-1, to the right of Nuevo Horizonte's Niceto Virila. Niceto Virila was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 13th minute Baldomero Lapurdi shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Baldomero Lapurdi in the 15th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 16 minutes into the game, Lautaro Puig cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Niceto Virila was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. When Lautaro Puig fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Lautaro Puig a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Nuevo Horizonte booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lautaro Puig didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21st minute, Eliseo Noboa hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 24 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Feliberto Ramirez. Baldomero Lapurdi scored 1-2 in the 27th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Benito Sanz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Eliseo Noboa scored 1-3 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Niceto Virila, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Eliseo Noboa came up free with the goalie in the 39th minute, the Costa Rica fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Eliseo Noboa couldn't finish the play. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-4 lead.

Benito Sanz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Feliberto Ramirez's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. Baldomero Lapurdi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Costa Rica's Aaron Alcocer suffered a sore thigh after 62 minutes and couldn't finish the game. When Leo Rutenio fell near the penalty area in the 62nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Nuevo Horizonte's protests and gave Leo Rutenio a yellow card for diving instead. Costa Rica made a substitution. Gerardo Montenegro replaced Aaron Alcocer. After 63 played minutes Nuevo Horizonte got a freekick which was hit by Leo Rutenio. In the 64th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gerardo Montenegro to maneuver through the defense. In the 67th match minute, Nuevo Horizonte was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by David Gagriel to maneuver through the defense. In the 72nd minute, Efrain Moruga hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Paulino Katia's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 79th minute of the game. The supporters of Nuevo Horizonte booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 88 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alan Moruga didn't get a good kick on the ball. 88 minutes into the match, Nuevo Horizonte's Honorio Aztore broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 91st minute there was a penalty for Nuevo Horizonte. Honorio Aztore stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Benito Sanz. 2-5. In the 94th minute, Eliseo Noboa got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The Costa Rica supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Costa Rica would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
