Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Radamel-Falcao García in the 4th minute. Luis Andino kicked well hit freekick during the 5th minute of the match. In the 7th minute the ball was on its way in behind Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 8 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jacinto Mincho was slow to take the kick. During this time La Cienaga's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Jacinto Mincho almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Ecuador's Julio Vera did a great save. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alonzo Botello in the 14th minute of play. Genaro Sindo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dario Benedetto in the 20th minute of play. In the 22nd match minute, La Cienaga was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alonzo Botello to maneuver through the defense. Felix Montenegro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Genaro Sindo having to make a save. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 31 minutes play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great ball. After 34 minutes La Cienaga's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Daniel Zorita who took care of the corner kick. In the 37th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Genaro Sindo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dario Benedetto in the 42nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 44 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Radamel-Falcao García. Alonzo Botello's late challenge caught a Ecuador's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alonzo Botello helped the player get up and apologised. The La Cienaga players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Ecuador were winning 0-1.

The wind increased when Dario Benedetto made the kick off in the second half. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 51st minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. A collision led to La Cienaga getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Dario Benedetto hit a great ball. La Cienaga's defense didn't have a chance, in the 63rd minute, when Felix Montenegro scored to the left of an out of position Genaro Sindo, making the score, 0-2. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dario Benedetto in the 66th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cristian Sancho got free with Genaro Sindo in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 72 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Radamel-Falcao García came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 77 minutes, Dario Benedetto made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. Ecuador's Julio Vera tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. After a defensive mix-up in La Cienaga's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Genaro Sindo came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dario Benedetto fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 85th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alonzo Botello in the 90th minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ecuador played a much better game than La Cienaga and deserved their victory. The La Cienaga players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
