An unexpectedly hard shot by Julian Murillo in the 24th minute of play forced Gimnasia y tiro's goalkeeper Wieslaw Panasewicz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Peru booed when Gimnasia y tiro was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luciano Mouricio didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Gimnasia y tiro's Victoriano Ubelteso got a free kick in the 48th minute. The Gimnasia y tiro players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Peru were winning 0-2.

A throw-in in the 53rd minute of the game was made by Endre Szentes with Victoriano Ubelteso as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. After having played for 55 minutes, Esben Nordborg managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Gimnasia y tiro's supporters crossed their fingers, but Esben Nordborg was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Wieslaw Panasewicz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Julian Murillo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wieslaw Panasewicz stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Julian Murillo's shot from short distance in the 85th minute. Julian Murillo who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 87thth minute tested the skills of Wieslaw Panasewicz when he managed to save the team from getting behind. 87 minutes into the game, Julian Murillo lined in a short shot 0-3 behind a frustrated Wieslaw Panasewicz. Peru made a substitution. Eliseo Alcocer replaced Moises Gayoso. Peru's Rafael Gallo was substituted for Julian Murillo. Peru made a substitution. Antonio Tenorio replaced Luz Tejedor. Joaquin Prats hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Basilio Guillem in the 97th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Peru walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
