Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ronaldinho Meira in the 3rd minute of the match. Eliseo Noboa's late challenge caught a Morro Grande E.C's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Eliseo Noboa helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Morro Grande E.C booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 7 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliseo Noboa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Alexander Carballo lost his temper 8 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 8 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Costa Rica! 15 minutes into the match, Costa Rica's goal looked a bit too open when Ronaldinho Meira came free, but Benito Sanz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Morro Grande E.C's Pedro Paulo Costa suffered a concussion after 15 minutes and had to leave the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Alan Moruga during the 15th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 18th minute, Ronaldinho Meira ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Benito Sanz was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldinho Meira in the 21st minute of play. Eliseo Noboa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Carlos Augusto Martins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Morro Grande E.C's José Pedro Abraão played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Eliseo Noboa in the 31st minute of play. 33 minutes into the match, Morro Grande E.C's Jorge Sá sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Benito Sanz narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Benito Sanz showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ronaldinho Meira, who was totally free with the ball in the 37th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Ronaldinho Meira in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Benito Sanz saved Costa Rica from getting behind. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Eliseo Noboa was the one to do the kick off. When Juan Rubio fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Costa Rica's protests and gave Juan Rubio a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Juan Rubio got a free kick in the 51st minute. Benito Sanz acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 51st minute, took the ball on the long shot from Jorge Sá. 54 minutes into the game, Morro Grande E.C's Ronaldo Lima nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jorginho Mazza fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Benito Sanz having to interfere. With a little luck, Costa Rica's Benito Sanz got control of the ball when Ronaldinho Meira tried to sneak it across the goal line. José Pedro Abraão showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Lautaro Puig, who was totally free with the ball in the 83rd minute. The audience was convinced that Ronaldinho Meira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldinho Meira in the 93rd minute of play.
