The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. With a little luck, Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens got control of the ball when Julian Murillo tried to sneak it across the goal line. Luz Tejedor was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. Erwin Huygens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Julian Murillo in the 22nd minute of the match. Erwin Huygens made an important save on a dangerous shot by Eliseo Mina in the 25th minute. Ago Tramp received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Rolando Noboa yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-3. Peru made a substitution. Rafael Gallo replaced Julian Murillo. The Velez Sarsfield supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Velez Sarsfield would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
