An unexpectedly hard shot by Monty Rogers in the 6th minute of play forced Húsares's goalkeeper Fabio Quintyn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fabio Quintyn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Monty Rogers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Florencio Ferran couldn't finish the play. Fabio Quintyn was a little too slow when Sam Campbell got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 93rd minute. The score was now 1-1. In the 98th minute, Candido Ted hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After 98 played minutes, USA's Jenson Smith shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Fabio Quintyn came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in USA reached it. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the USA players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
