Dorjan Budal started the match with the kick off. Naim Stanišič sent away a hard shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 9 minutes into the match, Hector Covarrubias had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Sreta Gorše. Bayer Leverkusen's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hector Covarrubias was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dorjan Budal in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacobo Nores saved Paraguay from getting behind. After 18 played minutes Bayer Leverkusen got a freekick which was hit by Lazar Topolovec. Jaime Pardo, 19 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. Sreta Gorše took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 29 minutes into the match, Bayer Leverkusen's Dorjan Budal sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacobo Nores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 38 minutes into the game, Bayer Leverkusen's Naim Stanišič nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jacobo Nores made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-2. The crowd rose to their feet as Dorjan Budal kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jacobo Nores. That made the score 2-2 in the 42 minute of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jaime Pardo made a kick off. Primitivo Escribano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Sreta Gorše having to interfere. If Naim Stanišič had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Sreta Gorše made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hector Covarrubias in the 74th minute of play. After having played for 75 minutes, Primitivo Escribano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Paraguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Primitivo Escribano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Hector Covarrubias's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sreta Gorše read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 78th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Bayer Leverkusen's Lazar Topolovec got a free kick in the 78th minute. Jaime Pardo received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Sreta Gorše tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Sreta Gorše came out of the goal in the 85th minute to try and stop a shot by Paraguay's Jaime Pardo. But to his dismay, Jaime Pardo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-3. Dorjan Budal hit a great freekick 88 minutes into the match. Despite being the better team, Paraguay failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
