Joaquin Gayoso didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Lucílio Figueiras went, in the 2nd minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. 7 minutes into the match, Uruguay's goal looked a bit too open when Manuel Fernandes came free, but Joaquin Gayoso reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Alberto Gisbert fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 12th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Renato Vargas having to interfere. After 13 minutes, Eloy Hats mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Sporting Clube de Gaya and the Uruguay players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 13th match minute, Sporting Clube de Gaya was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Eloy Hats to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute, Sporting Clube de Gaya's Silvano Garcez seemed to kick out at an opponent. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Kevin Carballal got a free kick in the 21st minute. A long shot from Virgílio Portugal in the 27th minute of play was well struck, but Joaquin Gayoso made a really good save at the right post. The supporters of Sporting Clube de Gaya booed when Uruguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Francisco Seco didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 29th minute, Lucílio Figueiras left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. After 33 minutes Uruguay's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Fredy Montero who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on Sporting Clube de Gaya's corner Fredy Montero fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Joaquin Gayoso quite easily take care of the ball. In the 35th minute, Maximiliano Escribano left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. Lucílio Figueiras received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 67th minute. Joaquin Gayoso tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. With a little luck, Sporting Clube de Gaya's Renato Vargas got control of the ball when Francisco Seco tried to sneak it across the goal line. Armando Mendes's late challenge caught a Uruguay's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card.
