Isidoro Sarmiento spun around in front of the goal 9 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Quirós's goal. The audience was convinced that Tomas Berganza's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gerardo Galo was relentless in the 11th minute of the game. Marcos Cotilla didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 13th minute, which inside left pole to 1-0. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Many of Panama's supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Panama may have spent more time on the ball, but Quirós were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
