André Monclús came free with the goalkeeper in the 19th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Thiago Pliego could save by the left post. Arnaldo Gabon's late challenge caught a Chile's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. In the 38th minute the ball was on its way in behind Chile's goalkeeper Thiago Pliego, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After taking down the ball on ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's corner Esteban Iztal fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Thiago Pliego quite easily take care of the ball. Branislav Velchevski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Mariano Lacasa in the 43rd minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Mariano Lacasa in the 43rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Branislav Velchevski prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When Everardo Cordarell fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's protests and gave Everardo Cordarell a yellow card for diving instead. In the 48th minute, Everardo Cordarell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the match was over Chile could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA throughout the match.
