The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 26thth minute of the game Daniel Zorita who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but STAL ST WOLA's Roman Matai was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 27 minutes had been played when some careless play by STAL ST WOLA's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Mikolaj Lech, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera made an important save on a dangerous shot by Michel Batistuta in the 33rd minute. Roman Matai didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Daniel Zorita went, in the 35th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. After having played for 39 minutes, Cristian Sancho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Cristian Sancho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Roman Matai made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 41st minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Daniel Zorita to make the kick off. In the 63rd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led to Ecuador's Felix Montenegro getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. After having played for 69 minutes, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Ecuador's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luis Andino was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Michel Batistuta in the 75th minute of play. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Roman Matai tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 80 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Michel Batistuta came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Roman Matai made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 82nd minute. 83 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Cristian Sancho sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Roman Matai narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 88 minutes into the match, STAL ST WOLA's goalkeeper Roman Matai had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Zorita.
