In the 8th match minute, Costa Rica was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Juan Rubio to maneuver through the defense. Róbson Arósio made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Axel Tasis in the 18th minute of play. Costa Rica's Benito Sanz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Duda Peixoto in the 21st minute of play. Wesley Soeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Benito Sanz tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Edu Saraiva might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Edu Saraiva ran back to his position shaking his head. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tião Braga didn't get a good kick on the ball. Lautaro Puig's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Róbson Arósio firmly grabbed it by the left post. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Juvenal Corrêa in the 40th minute of play. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Duda Peixoto in the 41st minute of the match. In the 41st minute, Axel Tasis hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Juvenal Corrêa took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Benito Sanz. Benito Sanz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. A collision led to Costa Rica getting a freekick after 47 minutes play. Alan Moruga hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Juvenal Corrêa in the 48th minute of play forced Costa Rica's goalkeeper Benito Sanz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Axel Tasis to make the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juvenal Corrêa got free with Benito Sanz in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Lautaro Puig got a free kick in the 60th minute. Alexander Carballo hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. After 65 played minutes ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ got a freekick which was hit by Wesley Soeiro. After a rather tough play, Costa Rica's Aaron Alcocer got a free kick in the 70th minute. If Duda Peixoto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 72nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Lautaro Puig hit a great freekick 73 minutes into the match. Benito Sanz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Duda Peixoto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 77 minutes into the match, Duda Peixoto dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Benito Sanz, 0-3. After 85 played minutes ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ got a freekick which was hit by Tião Braga. After 89 minutes, Lautaro Puig mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Costa Rica and the ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ players grew even worse after the yellow card. Lautaro Puig hit a great freekick 90 minutes into the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Juvenal Corrêa got free with Benito Sanz in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Benito Sanz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Duda Peixoto in the 93rd minute of play. When the final whistle sounded ㄈㄩㄥㄗㄙ left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Costa Rica.
